Best Day Trips
Wudang Mountains (武当山)
- Why: Taoist temples, the Golden Summit and the home of Wudang tai chi
- Tickets: ¥130 (students half) + scenic bus ¥100; cable car extra
- Getting there: HSR to Wudangshan West in about 2 h 26 min
Three Gorges Dam & Yichang (三峡大坝)
- Why: The world’s largest dam, Yangtze views, Xiling Gorge
- Tickets: Dam free; shuttle about ¥70 return
- Getting there: New riverside HSR from 69 minutes
Enshi Grand Canyon (恩施大峡谷)
- Why: Cliff walks, karst peaks and the Yunlong fissure
- Tickets: Combined ¥170; cable car extra
- Getting there: Train about 3.5 h, then scenic shuttle

- Check your station: Wuhan, Hankou and Wuchang stations serve different routes.
- Wudang and Enshi are much better as overnight trips.
